The Centre for Transport Studies engages in scholarly activities amongst constituencies outside the university that build on the Centre’s degree teaching and research. Our engaged scholarship broadly falls into two categories: short courses, and policy and project consultancy.
CfTS short courses
CfTS’s short courses are stand-alone offerings that aim to build capacity in the urban transport arena and encourage lifelong learning. These courses are developed and presented in conjunction with private and public sector practitioners, and are run on-demand on campus or on site. We offer two streams of short courses:
- urban transport planning and management courses for the public sector; and
- business planning and management courses for paratransit operators.
All our short courses are administered and accredited by the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment’s Continuing Professional Development Programme. If you are interested in partnering with us to run short courses please contact the short course series convenor, Herrie Schalekamp.
Policy and project consultancy
CfTS partners in or leads advisory and consultancy projects for a variety of South African and international government and development agencies. Past and current projects closely align with our research and teaching interests on topics such as passenger transport policy, paratransit reform, and non-motorised transport. To explore opportunities please contact any of the CfTS academic staff members.
